Finance, construct, operate, and maintain a tactical training facility for Cleveland Police Authority

The Durham and Cleveland Police Tactical Training Centre project is a 26 year concession to finance, construct, operate, and maintain a facility to train police officers in the use of firearms. The project was the first of its kind to be developed under the PFI. It currently provides 6,200 training places per annum. The client is Cleveland Police Authority.

Covering an area of more than 4,000 sqm, the centre incorporates a number of different facilities, including: two different types of firing range, a vehicle stop and search area, an abseil tower and climbing wall, an external baton range, and a skills house for close-quarter contact training.

The project reached financial close in early 2000. Construction was carried out by Barr Construction, with capital expenditure of £6 million, and was completed in March 2001.
