The Bishop Auckland Hospital project is a concession contract for up to 60 years (with client break options at 30, 40 and 50 years) to finance, remodel/refurbish, operate, and maintain Bishop Auckland General Hospital, for County Durham and Darlington Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The construction works included the demolition of certain existing buildings, provision of temporary accommodation, design and construction of a new building, refurbishing certain existing buildings, commissioning and related works.

Financial close occurred in mid-1999. The project involved capital expenditure of £66 million. Construction works were carried out by Shepherd Construction Limited, a family-owned, private construction company, and were completed in June 2002.

The operating phase of the project involves the provision of certain non- clinical support services at the hospital including maintenance, catering, housekeeping, porterage, switchboard and car parking services. ISS Mediclean Limited is responsible for both the Soft and Hard FM services.
