Finance, construct, operate, and maintain a road for the Highways Agency

The A249 Road project is a 30 year concession to finance, construct, operate, and maintain a section of the A249 road from Iwade Bypass to Queensborough. The client is the Highways Agency.

The A249 project has a “steady flow” payment scheme. The project company is also responsible for operations and maintenance of the existing A249 section between Junction 5 of the M2 and the docks entrance at the Port of Sheerness.

The project reached financial close in early 2004. Construction was carried out by Interserve, with capital expenditure of £79 million. Operations began in September 2006, with FM services provided by FM Conway.
