Finance, construct, operate, and maintain an acute hospital and three mental health facilities for two Birmingham NHS Foundation Trusts

Birmingham New Hospitals PFI project is a 40 year concession to finance, construct, operate, and maintain a new 1,213-bed acute hospital and three new mental health facilities in the Birmingham area. The clients are the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust.

The project reached financial close in June 2006. Construction works were undertaken by a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Construction and Hayden Young under a £553 million fixed-price construction contract. The new facilities were handed over in phases between 2008 and 2012. Services are being delivered by Cofely, a GDF SUEZ company.
