Finance, construct, operate, and maintain an Education Village and primary school for Darlington Borough Council

The Darlington Schools project is a 26 year contract to finance, construct, operate, and maintain an ‘Education Village’ (which brings together three existing schools) and one primary school for Darlington Borough Council.

The Education Village represents the consolidation of Springfield Primary School, Haughton Community School and Beaumont Hill Special School. It successfully combines existing nursery, primary, secondary and special educational needs into a single, cohesive campus, representing a unique approach to inclusive education in Darlington.

In addition, each school provides energy efficient accommodation through the use of sustainable engineering and technology.

Financial close was reached in March 2004. Designed by RyderHKS, supported by Cundall Johnston and DESCO, the schools were built by Kajima Construction Europe (UK) Limited and were fully completed by March 2006. Capital expenditure was £31 million.

Operations and maintenance services are provided by Mitie.
