Finance, construct, operate, and maintain a traffic headquarters and 16 police stations for Greater Manchester Police

The Greater Manchester Police Authority project is a 29 year concession to finance, construct, operate and maintain a new traffic headquarters and 16 new police stations (four divisional headquarters, five sub-divisional headquarters and seven local community police stations), for Greater Manchester Police.

Nearly 3,000 police officers have been able to move from 53 old stations into the 17 new buildings. For some of the patrol, CID and community officers and members of the Crown Prosecution Service, this is the first time that they have been able to work from the same building since the GMPA’s formation in 1974.

The new buildings cover 38,600 sqm of floor space.

The project reached financial close in December 2002. Construction was carried out by Laing O’Rourke, and was completed in September 2006. Capital expenditure was £82 million.
