Finance, remodel/refurbish, operate, and maintain a training facility for the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime

The Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre project is a 27 year concession to finance, remodel/refurbish, operate, and maintain an existing training facility for the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime. The brief required remodelling the existing site into two separate disciplines: public order training and specialist firearms training.

Within the public order training arena are a number of realistic facades including: a mocked up stadium, an underground station and tube carriage, and a complex of shops, houses and flats. The firearms facility incorporates a variety of firing ranges, as well as specialist facilities such as a train carriage and an aeroplane fuselage.

In addition to the training areas, the centre now contains accommodation for 305 students, plus classrooms, a reception area, a canteen, and leisure and fitness amenities.

The project reached financial close in April 2001. Construction was carried out by Laing O’Rourke, with capital expenditure of £40 million, and was completed in January 2003.

The site became operational in February 2003.
