Finance, construct, operate, and maintain one secondary and five primary schools for Norfolk County Council

The Norwich Area Schools PFI project is a 26 year concession to finance, construct, operate, and maintain six new schools – five primary schools and one secondary school – in and around Norwich. The client is Norfolk County Council.

The schools were developed as part of the Council’s reorganisation of education provision from a three-tier to a two-tier system, as well as being designed to facilitate community use, especially the secondary school which includes a large sports hall.

The schools also incorporate photo-voltaic energy cells with the intention that they will generate 10% of their energy use.

Financial close occurred in March 2006. The six schools were built by Kier Regional Limited with capital expenditure of £44 million.

The project became operational in late summer 2008. Soft and Hard FM services are provided by Kier Facilities Services Limited under a long-term FM contract.
