Finance, construct, operate, and maintain two secondary schools for Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council

The Oldham Secondary Schools PFI project is a 27 year concession to finance, construct, operate, and maintain two new 1,500 place secondary schools on part of each existing school’s site. The client is Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council.

One design feature of each school was the inclusion of a large multi-function internal / external ‘street’, which provides for a variety of teaching and learning environments and has the inherent flexibility to meet the changing curricular needs in coming years.

Both schools also complement some of the Borough’s existing leisure facilities, which are incorporated on the same school sites.

Financial close was achieved in May 2006. The schools were built by Kier Regional Limited with capital expenditure of £54 million.

The project became operational in February 2008. Soft and Hard FM services are provided by Kier Facilities Services Limited under a long-term FM contract.
