Finance, construct, operate, and maintain an acute hospital for North Bristol NHS Trust

Southmead Hospital PFI project is a 35 year concession to finance, construct, operate, and maintain an 800-bed acute hospital on a single site at Southmead in North Bristol, on behalf of the North Bristol NHS Trust.

The £431 million project reached financial close in February 2010. Construction was undertaken in two distinct phases, and included the construction of a 102,000 sqm new acute hospital “Brunel” building, which was completed in March 2014. The hospital is now open for use and has been fully operational since May 2014.

The second phase, which includes the demolition of the old hospital site, was substantially completed in 2016.
